An Italian culinary weekend with The Cicalas in Philadelphia 

Spend the weekend with us in Philadelphia, cooking at our restaurants and our home, discover the mom and pop shops on a South Philly food tour and we'll get you into an old school

Italian-American club straight out of a movie.

FRIDAY 

6:30 PM  Start the weekend off with a cello making class at the historic bar in Cicala followed by a 4-course dinner with wine pairing. The menu tonight is inspired by dishes of the chef's ancestral villages in Italy. Think Sicily, Abruzzo and Campania.

SATURDAY MORNING

11:00 AM  Meet at the Singing Fountain on east Passyunk Ave. for a street food tour of the neighborhood's Italian "mom & pop" shops and restaurants. Come hungry!

SATURDAY NIGHT 7:00 PM   Neapolitan Tombola Smorfia party tonight at Sorellina!  (Tombola is an Italian style bingo). Expect a night full of surprises, pizza and sweets.

SUNDAY

 

3:00 PM   Come over for dinner! Cook a traditional Italian American Sunday dinner with Chefs Angela & Joe Cicala at their house in South Philly. 

Make 2 types of antipasti, make homemade mozzarella, fluffy gnocchi, Neapolitan Ragu (We call it "Sunday Gravy" in South Philly), hand-roll and fry meatballs, and make Italian cookies & cannoli.

Walk dinner off with a passagiata to an old-school, private, Italian American club for after dinner cocktails.

​MONDAY

 

Pizza & Gelato class with Chefs Joe & Angela Cicala at Sorellina

Tonight it's dinner at the pasta bar at Fiorella in the Italian Market neighborhood. The space was most recently home to Luigi Fiorella's butcher shop which sold the best sausage in the city since 1892. A century later, when the Fiorella family decided to close, Marc Vetri stepped in and created this jewel box of a pasta bar carrying on the Fiorella family name. Vetri preserved much of the history of the building including the 220-pound, solid-brass cash register, one of the last of its kind, and it’s still functioning today.
