DAY 1 WELCOME TO THE SOUTH
Since Monopoli is a small historic village, there are very few hotels, so the Italians have created
a "hotel diffuso" option offering charming apartments with lots of character but also with all modern amenities. For this trip everyone will have their own apartment in the village which are all within walking distance to each other and all of the shops, cafes, historical sites, and piazzas. Please let us know at booking how many guests would like to be in one apartment. The maximum accommodation at one property is usually 2 bedrooms.)
We will meet you at Napoli Centrale train station and head to Monopoli, stopping for a quick lunch along the way. Check into your accommodations then we'll meet for an aperitivo before dinner in Monopoli.
DAY 2 CHEESE FORREST
We'll enjoy a very unique cheese tasting immersed in the forest in Cassano delle Murge. This is a wonderland of cheeses, some which could be mistaken for elaborate cakes! Seafood dinner tonight in Polignano A Mare.
DAY 3 THE SASSI OF MATERA
Visit the ancient city of Matera and and discover the ceramic artisans and wood carvers who have been keeping the tradition of hand carving bread stamps alive for centuries. We will visit the Madonna della Idris ancient church and an original cave house, (The people of Matera lived in the caves of the sassi until the 1950's!) For digestivo fans, a stop at the Amaro Lucano shop for a tasting is a must, as it is made here. Lunch together at a trattoria in the heart of the sassi. Dinner is on your own tonight in Monopoli.
DAY 4 WINE, OLIVE OIL & THE SEA
Mid day boat ride around the cliffs of Polignano A Mare followed by a wine tasting and light lunch at the beautiful Tenuta Terre di San Vito. They produce the area's best wine and olive oil and you can buy some to take home, or they will also ship. Tonight we have dinner at a local rosticceria for traditional "bombette" tonight, (Bombette are grilled pork, beef, chicken or veal, filled with bread crumbs, cheese, and seasonings then grilled on a skewer over flames.)
DAY 5 BEACH DAY & GIRL'S NIGHT OUT
Spend the morning at a beach club and take in the Italian sunshine. Drinks and lunch are available on site too. Not a sun worshipper? Set yourself on a comfy lounge chair under a swaying palm umbrella with a cool drink in hand. There is also an onsite restaurant to have lunch. In the late afternoon we'll have an
aperitivo get-together with a professional make up artist who will get you ready for tonight! Grab your cutest outfit and head to Bari tonight for dinner followed by drinks and live DJ in the piazza.
DAY 6 PANZAROTTI & ITALIAN COCKTAILS IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
Spend the day in the olive groves at a local's farmhouse learning to make a variety of Italian summer cocktails and panzarotti, a beloved street food go Puglia. This is a hands on class with recipes to keep. Dinner together tonight in Ostuni.
DAY 7 HORSEBACK RIDING IN THE OLIVE GROVES
Get up close and personal with nature today as we take a gentle horse back ride through the rock lined paths built thousands of years ago. Ride through olive groves and trulli houses with spectacular views of the this ancient land. Lunch at an agriturismo, dinner in Monopoli.
DAY 8 ARRIVEDERCI!
After breakfast we will depart back to Naples to return you to the airport or train station as needed.
IMPORTANT: If you are flying on this day, your flight must depart after 2:00 pm to make it back to Naples in time. If you need to fly earlier or connect to a train earlier, you will be responsible for arranging your own transportation.
